Gianna Jun will star alongside Gang Dongwon, John Cho and Michael Gaston in “Tempest,” a Korean spy thriller coming to Disney+ internationally and Hulu in the U.S.

The nine-part series centers on a multinational conspiracy threatening stability on the Korean Peninsula following an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate.

Jun, known for “My Love From The Star” and “Kingdom,” plays Seo Munju, a skilled former diplomat turned UN ambassador who investigates the attempt on the candidate’s life. After discovering the candidate was accused of being a North Korean spy, Munju uncovers what Disney+ describes as “a Pandora’s box of deception, state secrets and more.”

Gang Dongwon (“Peninsula,” “Uprising”) co-stars as Paik Sanho, a highly trained mercenary with a suspicious history who protects Munju as she navigates an international conspiracy stretching to the White House.

The international cast includes John Cho (“Star Trek,” “Murderbot”) as assistant secretary of state Anderson, Michael Gaston (“Daredevil: Born Again,” “Bridge of Spies”) as secretary of defense Eagleton, and Spencer Garrett (“Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood”) as President Houser. Christopher Gorham (“The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Ugly Betty”) plays Ethan, a mercenary.

Korean cast members include Lee Misook (“Queen of Tears,” “The Plot”) as Lim Okseon, mother of presidential candidate Jang Junik, played by Park Haejoon (“When Life Gives You Tangerines”).

Kim Heewon, who directed the hit series “Queen of Tears” and “Vincenzo,” helms the project, with co-direction by martial arts specialist Heo Myeonghaeng (“The Roundup: Punishment,” “Badland Hunters”). The series is written by Chung Seokyung (“Decision to Leave,” “Little Women”).

Imaginus produces in association with Showrunners, AA, and Skydance.

“Tempest” will debut with a three-episode premiere on Sept. 10, followed by two episodes weekly until the two-part finale on Oct. 1.

The series represents Disney+’s continued investment in Korean content, joining recent offerings including “Nine Puzzles,” the year’s most-watched Disney+ Korean drama, along with “A Shop For Killers,” “Hyper Knife,” and “Moving.”
