FX has picked up the comedy pilot “Movers” from a team of “Reno 911” alums, Variety has learned.
The improvised workplace comedy is said to revolve around “the erratic and codependent lives of a crew of movers.” The husband and wife team of Robert Ben Garant and Cathy Shim are the stars, co-creators, and executive producers of the pilot.
In addition, the pilot has set five cast members. Those are: Rebecca Quin (a.k.a Becky Lynch of WWE fame), Maz Jobrani (“Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero,” “Superior Donuts”), Darius Homayoun (“Succession,” “Sex/Life”), Tanael Joachim (“January 3rd,” “Son of Haiti”), and Manny Montana (“Ironheart,” FX’s “Mayans MC”).
“Reno 911” executive producers Stacey Sher and Peter Principato are also executive producers on the pilot along with Jonny Shipes. 20th Television is the studio.
Garant is repped by CAA, Artists First, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Shim is repped by Global Artists Agency and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Jobrani is repped by CAA and Mainstay Entertainment. Homayoun is repped by Gersh. Joachim is repped by Artists First. Montana is repped by Innovative Artists and Trademark Talent. Quin is repped by CAA, Adventure Media, and Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver Thompson.
Though Quin is best known for her time in the squared circle, this is not her first acting role. She previously appeared as herself in the Showtime series “Billions” and played Cyndi Lauper in the NBC series “Young Rock.” Next up, she will appear in “Happy Gilmore 2” as well as the Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.”
Garant co-created “Reno 911” and also served as a director and executive producer on the cult hit improvised cop mockumentary series. He also appeared onscreen as Deputy Travis Junior. The show aired for six seasons on Comedy Central between 2003 and 2009 before it was revived at Quibi and then later at The Roku Channel. The show also inspired the film “Reno 911!: Miami” and the specials “Reno 911: The Hunt for QAnon” and “Reno 911: It’s a Wonderful Heist.” Garant is an accomplished screenwriter as well, having worked on films like the “Night at the Museum” franchise, “The Pacifier,” and “Hell Baby.”
Shim appeared in multiple roles in “Reno 911” over its run, including playing Junior’s wife in one episode. Her recent credits include Anderson Paak’s directorial debut, “K-Pops,” as well as shows like “Superior Donuts,” “The Cleveland Show,” and “Bajillion Dollar Brokers.”
