Flight Attendants Love This $45 Amazon Luggage Set

Traveling thousands of miles every month, flight attendants require the crème de la crème of luggage. The Travelpro suitcases crew members are often found rolling through the airport go for at least $200, which is actually a bargain compared to the gold standard in crew bags, Briggs & Riley (rollaboards start at around $650). But there are more affordable luggage alternatives, too, like one carry-on set from Amazon that’s also earned favor among flight attendants.

This softside Rockland suitcase and underseater two-piece is a steal, on sale for an impressive $45 during Amazon Prime Day. There are hundreds of luggage deals during this annual Amazon sale event, but this two-piece set is one of the best we’ve spotted.

For almost half off the original price, this Rockland luggage set includes a 19-inch rollaboard and a handheld tote that can fit under the airplane seat. The suitcase is plenty roomy enough for a weekend getaway, but many reviewers say it can fit a week’s worth of clothing if you’re a little more conservative—and if you roll, don’t fold (always!).

The softside suitcase naturally stretches and expands to fit a little more of your belongings inside, and this one is made of heavy-duty polyester for added durability. Plus, the two exterior pockets can hold items you need easy access to, like travel documents or your TSA liquids bag. It sits on two inline skate wheels, and it won’t tilt or fall over thanks to the weight-distributing stability bars at the bottom.

Meanwhile, the matching tote is handy for storing toiletries, electronics, or in-flight snacks and entertainment, since it’s small enough to keep under the seat and within reach the entire ride. It comes with a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap, but an easier way to carry it is to stack it on top of the rollaboard.

In terms of durability, most agree it’s probably not one of those luggage sets you can use forever—it’s a $45 set, remember—but it might be sturdier than you think. One reviewer wrote that after two years of use, including taking dozens of flights and road trips, it remains in excellent shape. “The wheels are smooth, the handle sturdy, and zippers strong,” they wrote. Another person who had been using it for five years and counting said it still looks “like new” and has fit belongings for “10-plus day vacations all over the world.”

Flight attendants say that for an inexpensive set, these Rockland bags get the job done. One who bought it in a pinch when a wheel fell off their Travelpro bag over Thanksgiving weekend said they continued carrying it as their daily bag for three months. They wrote a comprehensive list of pros and cons in their Amazon review. On the plus side, the carry-on fits in the smallest overhead bins, can “comfortably” hold five days’ worth of clothing, and is super light and expandable. The negatives included noisy wheels and some faulty stitching.

Another flight attendant who travels five to six days a week carried this set for five months and was “impressed,” writing that the wheels and handle still worked great after so much constant use. “While I’m sad to see it show some wear, it served me well for the last few months while I search for a [more hardy] set,” they said. “For your average traveler who doesn’t need to spend money on a heavy-duty set, this would be great!”

If you’re looking for affordable luggage to take on vacation this summer, hundreds of thousands of Amazon shoppers recommend it. With the money you’ll save opting out of expensive bags, you won’t feel guilty about the extra poolside margaritas or opting into a flight upgrade.
