Netflix‘s upcoming Josh Hartnett series has begun production on-location in Newfoundland and has added another four names to its growing cast, Variety has learned.

The project, which is currently untitled, stars Hartnett as “a hardened fisherman who must protect his family and remote town on the northern Canadian island against a mysterious and menacing sea monster,” per the official logline. In addition to Hartnett, the series will star Mackenzie Davis of “Speak No Evil” and Charlie Heaton of “Stranger Things.”

Netflix has also revealed that the cast will also include Willow Kean (“The King Tide”, “Away from Everywhere”), Ruby Stokes (“Lockwood & Co,” “Sunny Dancer”), Rohan Campbell (“Halloween Ends,” “The Monkey”) and Kaleb Horn (“Revival,” “Chucky”). All are visible in the series’ first image from production, featuring the new cast members huddled together for a selfie with Hartnett and Heaton. The image can be seen above.

The limited series will run for six episodes, directed by Jamie Childs, Helen Shaver and Stephen Dunn. Toronto-native Jesse McKeown of Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” serves as series creator and showrunner, while Karen Walton, Perry Chafe and Natty Zavitz round out the writers’ room. Hartnett and Childs also serve as executive producers alongside Jessica Rhoades, Chris Hatcher, Louise Sutton and Sharon Hall.

Hartnett’s recent credits include Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” in 2023 and M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap” in 2024 and one-off appearances in “The Bear” on FX and “Black Mirror” on Netflix. Up next, he will be seen in Michael Showalter’s Colleen Hoover adaptation “Verity” and James Franco’s “The Long Home.”
