Senate Passes Trump’s Sprawling Policy Bill After Marathon Session
The Senate passed President Trump’s marquee bill to slash taxes and social safety net programs after more than 24 hours of debate and negotiations. It must now go to the house for final approval.
“On this vote, the ‘Yeas’ are 50. The ‘Nays’ are 50. The Senate being evenly divided, the vice president votes in the affirmative. The bill, as amended, is passed.” “The Medicaid proposal in this bill bears no resemblance to that kind of discipline and due diligence. It has no insights into how these provider tax cuts are going to be absorbed without harming people on Medicare. We owe it to the American people, and I owe it to the people of North Carolina, to withhold my affirmative vote until it’s demonstrated to me that we’ve done our homework.” “I want to know if my colleagues on the other side of the aisle believe that there are some Americans so wealthy that perhaps they don’t need a tax break at the expense of health care and food for our most vulnerable constituents. So I’ll kick off this dialogue by raising a common sense idea: We can save health care for millions of Americans, if we strip out tax giveaways for individuals making more than $10 million — yes or no?”
