There are luxurious boutique stays in Tulum, and then there’s Nest. This intimate, 13-key property in the SoTu (South Tulum) Beach Zone skips scene-y vibes in favor of candlelit calm, natural textures, and barefoot elegance. Rooms are all one-of-a-kind, from beachfront suites with palapa roofs and soaking tubs to a rooftop tower room with panoramic views. The on-site restaurant—operated by the team behind one of the area’s most acclaimed fine-dining spots, NÜ Tulum—serves Mexican-fusion cuisine with beachfront service. While there’s no pool or spa, guests can work with the staff to book private treatments in their room, and access a pool at Nest’s sister property, Radhoo. For those chasing the original magic of Tulum—the one before the beach clubs and bottle service—Nest is a rare find that delivers.

Tulum may be known for its bumping beach clubs and designer boutiques, but you don’t need a five-figure budget to fall under its spell thanks to a plethora of affordable hotels on offer. I’ve been coming to this once-sleepy coastal town in Mexico for years, drawn to its low-key, laid-back vibe—the kind of place where flip-flops and loose linens are the unofficial dress code and the humidity gives my makeup-free face a dewy glow. Over time, Tulum has also built a reputation for its all-night beach parties and DJ-fueled jungle raves, drawing a stylish, international crowd. But for me, Tulum’s magic has always been in its beachfront bungalows and jungle hideaways, where yoga mats wait on shaded decks, the scent of copal drifts through open-air lobbies, and eco-chic hotels prioritize sustainability over flashiness. Days here can be as busy or as slow as you want. And while the secret is certainly out on Tulum, it’s still possible to find those barefoot, soul-soothing vibes that first put it on the map for under $300 a night.

Ready to make the trip and still go easy on your wallet? Here are the best affordable hotels in Tulum worth visiting.
